Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing microscopy societies of Austria, Germany and Switzerland, it is our great pleasure to invite you to the Microscopy Conference 2017 held in Lausanne (Switzerland) from August 21 to 25, 2017.

This international event is part of a series of conferences organized every four years by the three hosting microscopy societies, alternatingly taking place in one of the three countries. The microscopy conference in Lausanne is being conducted under the auspices of the European Microscopy Society (EMS) as an EMS extension event, open to contributions from anywhere around the globe.

The scientific program features three main topical areas addressing advances in instrumentation, life sciences and materials science. Each main topic is split in seven thematic sessions covering invited and contributed talks as well as poster sessions. In addition to the core scientific program, an industrial exhibition, a conference dinner, plenary lectures and award ceremonies in conjunction with award lectures will round off the program.

The conference takes place at the SwissTech Convention Center which offers high-tech facilities for conventions in close proximity to the campus of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). Located at the shore of Lake Geneva, which bordered to the North with spectacular vineyards at the foot of the Jura Mountains and to the South by snowy summits of the French Alpes, the convention center offers an attractive place for this scientific event and invites for touristic activities in and around the city of Lausanne.

We are looking forward to a stimulating scientific and social event and to welcoming you in the picturesque area of Lausanne.

With best wishes,

Marco Cantoni, Rolf Erni and Markus Dürrenberger
